I would never suggest other than an eschatological timeline. But I would argue the speedrun towards Gehenna we were aiming for was altered by a very near miss on July 13 of last year. I would argue it completely shifted the trajectory to where we are now.

Many “apocalyptic” modernist Orthodox saw everything from the war in Ukraine to the unstoppable leftist regime as a sign that the Parousia was near. & Yet in the following weeks everything simply collapsing on the other side, the pseudo-apocalypticists were driven a painful blow: how could the end be near if things started to go well?

Hence the Moscow Muslims taking a “Church” (I think that’s a mosque, I see no crosses) is their new framing for their end-times desires. Unfortunately, that mosque as been there for years, as have millions of Russian Muslims.

The dreamers hope to prove something, but all they prove is they don’t know diddly about Russian demographics: or the scope of the tasks ahead. Anywhere.. Hope that helps!

Oh, I’m sorry I never noticed this until now.

I understand your point now. And thanks for explaining here, on this microblog! I didn’t know about the apocalyptic discourse in Orthodoxy last year.

Russia definitely has plenty of Muslims, and have had for a long time. And that is a mosque for sure, in the picture: see the crescents atop the spires? And for my sin I decided to ask GPT what it was. No problem identifying: Moscow Cathedral Mosque.

Lots of Muslims there is not a novel or especially alarming sign of the end times.
