Intriguing. This is at least the third post between Elon and Jack that has signaled a plan to let people design their own algorithms:

Jack told me in spring 2019 that they were committed to making this change. He never did.
Then Elon arrived, promising a free speech regime, then made things WORSE for many of us by giving us “freedom of speech, not freedom of reach.” I’m throttled in a way I certainly wasn’t when Jack was in charge.

It is easy to anticipate the potential problem with user-designed algorithm tools on X.com (assuming a sufficiently large assortment; but it might not be). Namely, my followers might select certain topics, certain persons, etc., but if X’s variable throttling is still in place, my followers STILL won’t be shown my posts.
Besides all that, there’s certainly a catch. I assume X is owned by people—like Elon himself, of course—who *want* to design the algorithm. So they will!
Or, it’ll be available only to paying subscribers. This will NOT solve my problem, unless MOST of the people who would like to see my stuff are both paying subscribers and make needed algorithm tweaks so that they can see it. Nor will this prevent Elon from pumping up his friends and controlled accounts, dominating the discussion, and flooding out organic discussion.
Sorry, but this probably won’t undo “freedom of speech not reach,” even if they do it.
